To get Ornate Keys in MK1, you have to buy them from shops scattered around the map. These keys are only 100 Krowns, so they are pretty cheap (Krowns are the Invasion-specific currency). The shop is signified by the the blue six-armed Naknadan character that looks like Kollector from Mortal Kombat 11. There are a few on every one of the maps in Invasion, but you can’t buy more than one key from each merchant. You will have to go around to different shops to buy each one (some do not even have keys, either).

Ornate Keys can only be used on certain chests, which will show up in front of the chests before you try to open them. And since these chests are usually out of the way, it makes more sense to buy Ornate Keys when you come across them. They do take up one consumable inventory slot, but they are still worth carrying around since these chests can be a little out of the way. The layout in Invasion is not conducive to traveling quickly, so it is better to be prepared, especially for a mode where Krowns are easy to come by.
