Squid Game Season 2 Release Date

Squid Game Season 2: Release Date Rumors, News, and Leaks

Squid Game was one of the surprise hits of 2021, and fans are eager to see more. The first season ends on a cliffhanger, with many questions unanswered. So, fans are wondering when we’ll see a Squid Game season 2 release date and if there have been any news and leaks.

Is there a Squid Game season 2 release date on Netflix?

Netflix Squid Game season 2 release date

Squid Game season 2’s director?Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously stated he hopes it’ll stream on Netflix by the end of 2024. A 25-page treatment was already penned by the director last year, with the hopes being that it’ll soon move into production.

An official date hasn’t been set for when the next season of Squid Game will make its way to the streaming platform, but it’s definitely going ahead. Hwang Dong-hyuk has even spoken about what the next season will include.

Squid Game Season 2: News and leaks so far

Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed a sliver of Squid Game season 2 news, stating what the project will be called and the level of violence viewers can expect.

“It will be more violent than ‘Squid Game,’” Hwang said in a MipTV session (via Variety). He also discussed specifics related to the project in an interview with AP Entertainment, also joking that the demand for Squid Game season 2 was so high that he was left with “almost no choice” but to make another.

Hwang said that the series’ protagonist will “come back” in season 2 and will “do something for the world.”

He has also previously spoken of his ideas for the second season (via Forbes), stating that he’d like to use the Front Man?— the leader of the Masked Man and the first season’s secondary antagonist?— and focus on the forceful policing we saw in the first series. “I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea,” the director said. “I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season 2 I can talk about this more.”

It was inevitable that there will be a second season of Squid Game. The show is Netflix’s most-watched series and has been a pop culture sensation. Over 142 million member households tuned into at least one episode, and it received 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks on the service. There’s no way that Netflix would leave that much money on the table.

Luckily, there’s plenty of material for subsequent seasons to cover. Squid Run ended on a cliffhanger, with winner Lee Jung-jae seeming determined to oppose those behind the Squid Game.

We also never saw the subplot between Seoul police officer Wi Ha-joon and his missing brother resolved. His brother was revealed to be the Frontman, and it appeared that Wi was killed and fell into the ocean. However, it was never confirmed that was the case, and season two of Squid Game would likely have the Lee Jung-jae tracking down the Frontman. We might see Lee and Wi team up to take on those behind the Squid Game as part of a second season.

Even though no release date has been set for Squid Game Season 2, rest assured that it’s coming. It’s just a matter of time before we get more concrete details.
